FASHION SHOW 2009

The 3rd annual Humane Society of Pagosa Springs Fashion Show on May 9 was a joint effort with Dogster’s Spay & Neuter Program in Durango. This year’s show — Struttin’ at the Strater — was held at the Strater Theatre in downtown Durango. The event started with socializing with mimosas as attendees followed by a delicious brunch. After brunch, the latest in spring and summer trends from southwest Colorado’s favorite retail stores were paraded on the Strater stage. Local models helped the audience plan their wish list for the season’s fashions. All proceeds from the event will go to the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs Homeward Bound Campaign and to Durango’s Dogster’s Spay & Neuter Program.

This is not the first time that Dogster’s and Humane Society of Pagosa Springs (HSPS) have joined together for a project. In 2005, they launched “Operation Care for a Pet,” a coordinated effort to help the dogs and cats misplaced by Hurricane Katrina. More than 70 dogs and 35 cats were flown to Durango’s La Plata Airport. There, they were processed by four local veterinarians, who performed health assessments before the animals were vaccinated, microchipped, groomed and placed in pre-approved foster homes until they could be reunited with their owners or be placed in new permanent loving homes. Six other humane societies/animal groups and over 100 volunteers also helped with this mass undertaking.
